A Symmetry

Working on a piece for my solo show this friday at Abbot's Habit. The show is loosely about symmetry and balance (ironically something my life lacks right now, haha). I'll have about three of these big pieces (24x48in) and a few "quilts".

Come by and check out the show. The reception will be this friday, the 3rd. Drink some coffee and look at stuff on the walls, talk to be about art if you want! 7-10pm or whenever the place closes.

Printing, Dome-ing, and Listening

Well it's been a hectic weekend. I did a little bit of relief printing, built a geodesic dome with my friends, and watched the Music Tapes perform inside the dome inside our warehouse. More after the jump!

The Music Tapes

Tonight, the casa will be blessed with the acoustical presence of The Music Tapes, or Julian Koster; the saw player from Neutral Milk Hotel. We've been working hard all day to make the place presentable for such a magnificent experience.

Seven foot metronome, AWESOME!

Sink Hole

Boy, this thing is addicting, I'm gonna have to start cutting down on the new posts. Here's a drawing I started today for a solo show in December.
I started out with a pencil drawing and then outlined everything in brown watercolor. I want to paint the flowers in and leave the chair black and white. The whole paper is about 30"x22". Yay, I'm being productive again!

Winter Fruits

Working on some linoleum block relief prints for a show at GRSF called Print Matter. I am making a series of "Winter Fruit" prints; pomegranate, cranberries, persimmon, etc.

I've got two blocks carved, two more to go? maybe?
When the blocks are printed, the image will be reversed, hence the backwardedness.

CdA

A few new projects from the Casa. Enjoy!
Words are fun. Poster paper, staples, ink, and plywood. My response to someone stapling my drawing upside down on a piece of cardboard during an art show.

I found this plastic bear in the music room and painted it. Can you guess which graffiti artist I was thinking of when I painted this?

Upside Down Clouds

Happy wednesday! This week at the warehouse we're all getting ready for the Inglewood open studios/art walk on Saturday. I'm working on an installation, probably the biggest or most involved I've ever done. I had a huge roll of paper lying around so I thought I'd make a nice installation piece. Progress pics below.

Inglewood Open Studios is on Saturday November 13th and Sunday November 14th, from 1-6pm. Stop by if you're in the neighborhood, we're right off of Hyde Park and West!

COACH

For this project, I got to work with Coach designing handbags on-site during a one night event called "Fashion's Night Out" at Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Once a year, all the stores stay open late and have special events going on like ferris wheels and celebrity appearances. Coach hired me to hand-paint their tote bags!

All night long, I painted limited edition canvas totes that shopper's bought; with my own designs or customized for the shopper. It was nice collaborating with shopper's and seeing the smiles on their faces when they saw their customized bags. Also, the hors d'Ĺ“uvres were irresistible (and so were the cocktails, haha).

Thank you every one at the flagship store for hosting me and COACH for providing the lovely canvas's to work on!

gotta love the filligree

This woman had me draw a classic road bike to match her pink Colnago.

I made sure all the parts were there!
