Print Sale + Swap meet - Sunday, February 26th

Somehow I found myself hosting a Print Sale/Swap meet next Sunday. These things happen sometimes, where I will be noodling about and all of a sudden a bunch of opportunities present themselves and I just say YES YES YES and then I have all this planning and organizing to do!

So, this group called the Centaur Collective invited the Squirrel Scouts to host a few workshops during their residence at the Sancho Gallery. Well, I took it upon myself to create a fun event that some fellow artists could benefit from, a Print Sale! So, if you're an artist and want to sell your stuff, shoot me an e-mail. Otherwise, come by and say hello!

Happy New Year!! I spent New Year's day making modular origami with Ren and watching movies with my room mates. I will post a picture of the triangle icosahedron we made. This is a pyramid (stellated) icosahedron that I made yesterday while Ren made this lego VW bus. It is made with 30 pieces of paper!

We Are All Animals MMXI was a success!! Hundreds of amazing people came out for the show and many talented artists contributed. Many thanks to give! I don't have many pictures of the night, but I promise you, this show is a force to be reckoned with. Next installment will be in Los Angeles.

Nowadays, I've been pretty bogged down by a 40 hour work week at my new art store job. When I'm not clocked in, I'm usually with my Squirrel Scouts burning screens or making dresses or running booths at festivals. We are beginning to establish ourselves in Los Angeles and soon we'll have our very own store front, live/work warehouse and community space! Check out some of the things we've been working on and like our Facebook page!

Also, I finally got to finish drawing out that mural I was talking about a few months ago. I call it "Flower Pickers". Hopefully it will be approved for production and become a mural at LA Guild!

Brown Paper Bag Book

I made a book! I used some brown paper bags, scrap fabric, hot glue, elmers and a snap button.

POT LEAVES AND XMAS STOCKINGS

All week I've been working on projects around the warehouse. Cleaning, organizing, decorating, crafting, painting, etc. I haven't spent a moment to work on my own art, but I really don't mind at all.

Here are some projects we've been working on:

Our dear friend Mike was kind enough to do all of our plumbing for us free of charge, as long as we provided him with beer whenever he asked. He outfitted us with a kitchen sink and hot water (finally!). In return, he requested that we build him a freak chopper bike. So here's what we came up with! It's probably one of the most beautiful freak bikes that have come from the warehouse. Fuzz did most of the welding and assembling and I did the pot leaf detail on the fenders and body. Marcus did the beautiful lettering. Sweet deal!

The holidays are just around the corner, so the ladies of the house have been busy getting into holiday spirit. We're making stockings for all of the residents and our extended family, each customized to their personality and taste. Here are just a fraction of them, a lot of people have taken theirs home already so I didn't get to take photos. Anyway, what I learned this week is that it's way more fun making stuff for your loved ones than for yourself. More collaborative projects to come, I still have to document them all.

Bears, Flowers, and Spools

Here are some random tidbits that I forgot to add in the last post.

COACH

For this project, I got to work with Coach designing handbags on-site during a one night event called "Fashion's Night Out" at Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Once a year, all the stores stay open late and have special events going on like ferris wheels and celebrity appearances. Coach hired me to hand-paint their tote bags!

All night long, I painted limited edition canvas totes that shopper's bought; with my own designs or customized for the shopper. It was nice collaborating with shopper's and seeing the smiles on their faces when they saw their customized bags. Also, the hors d'œuvres were irresistible (and so were the cocktails, haha).

Thank you every one at the flagship store for hosting me and COACH for providing the lovely canvas's to work on!
